English Literature & Creative Writing Expertise

With a PhD in Creative Writing, I bring deep academic knowledge and practical experience to literature and writing instruction. I make English Literature relatable and enjoyable by connecting classic and contemporary texts to students’ lives and interests, using engaging discussions, creative activities, and real-world applications. My approach to developing creative writing spans all levels—from building foundational skills in younger students to advanced techniques for A-Level and IB candidates. I guide students through various forms including poetry, prose, drama, and creative non-fiction, helping them f ind their unique voice whilst mastering technical craft. My published books and regular workshops demonstrate my commitment to the writing community and provide students with insights into the publishing world.

Comprehensive Creative Writing Support Across All Educational Levels

My creative writing expertise extends across the complete educational spectrum, providing tailored support at each developmental stage:

Primary Level Creative Writing: I help young writers discover the joy of storytelling through ima ginative exercises, basic narrative structures, and creative expression activities. Focus areas include character development, simple plot construction, descriptive writing, and building confidence in creative expression through age-appropriate techniques and encouraging feedback.

Secondary Level Creative Writing: Supporting students in developing more sophisticated writing skills through exploring genre conventions, advanced narrative techniques, and critical analysis of their own work. I teach structured approaches to short stories, poetry forms, and dramatic writing whilst encouraging individual creativity and voice development.

A-Level Creative Writing: Providing comprehensive preparation for A-Level Creative Writing examinations, including portfolio development, critical commentaries, and examination technique. I guide students through advanced literary forms, experimental techniques, and the integration of creative and critical elements required for top-level performance.

University Level Creative Writing: Supporting undergraduate students with creative writing modules, portfolio development, and dissertation projects. This includes advanced workshops in specific 2 genres, literary theory application to creative practice, and preparation for creative writing competitions and publications.

I provide guidance on contemporary literary trends, publication strategies, and the integration of creative practice with critical research.

PhD Research Level Creative Writing: Expert supervision and mentoring for doctoral candidates pursuing practice-based PhDs in Creative Writing. This includes guidance on the creative-critical balance, original contribution requirements, thesis structure, and preparation for viva examinations.
