Executive Functioning Coaching

Mike supports young people who struggle with Executive Functioning skills, which can particularly affect students with ADHD, Autism and other neurodivergent learning profiles.

Following SEN Specialists’ Executive Functioning training, Mike helps students develop practical strategies they can use both in school and at home. Support can include:

  • Planning and organisation – breaking schoolwork and larger tasks into manageable steps.
  • Time management – understanding how long tasks take and creating realistic routines.
  • Revision and study skills – developing structured approaches to revision rather than relying on last-minute studying.
  • Task initiation – helping students overcome difficulties getting started with homework, coursework or revision.
  • Working memory – using practical strategies to manage instructions and retain important information.
  • Prioritising – recognising what needs to be completed first and managing competing demands.
  • Organising thoughts – helping students structure ideas before speaking or writing.
  • Developing independence – gradually reducing reliance on parents and teachers by building routines and strategies the student can manage themselves.

Mike’s approach is supportive, practical and individualised. Rather than simply telling students to “be more organised”, he works with them to identify where they are getting stuck and develop strategies that suit the way they learn.

The aim is not only to improve academic performance, but also to help students become more confident, independent and in control of their learning.

Mike is known for his incredibly down-to-earth personality and his natural ability to build trust and rapport with students, parents, and school staff. He understands that for many neurodivergent learners, the first step to success is feeling seen and understood. By creating a safe, pressure-free environment, Mike connects with students on a human level, helping them feel comfortable enough to take risks and grow and is very passionate in what does as a SEN tutor.
