Yajat is a passionate SEN mathematics tutor specialising in UKMT Challenges, Mathematical Olympiads, advanced problem-solving and enrichment mathematics. He studied Mathematics at Brunel University London, gaining a Certificate of Higher Education in Mathematics.
As an autistic tutor, Yajat brings valuable lived experience and an understanding that neurodivergent students may process information, communicate and approach problems differently. He creates a patient, accepting learning environment and adapts his explanations to each student’s strengths, interests and preferred way of learning.
Yajat has experience providing online and face-to-face tuition, including long-term preparation for the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge. His lessons extend beyond past papers to explore mathematical history, formulas, theorems and problem-solving techniques that strengthen reasoning and curiosity.
A distinctive feature of his teaching is encouraging students to create their own mathematical problems. This helps learners recognise patterns, understand how questions are constructed and approach unfamiliar challenges with greater confidence.
Yajat participated in UNIQ, the University of Oxford’s competitive academic residential programme, where he explored subjects including matrices, Markov chains, number theory, cryptography and Diophantine equations. He also took part in the 2023 PROMYS Europe admissions cycle and has extensive knowledge of mathematical competitions, summer schools and enrichment opportunities.
His commitment to widening access to advanced mathematics began at school, where he successfully encouraged the mathematics department to fund entries to the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. This enabled Yajat and several classmates to become the school’s first BMO1 cohort. He is also a member of the London Mathematical Society and has contributed articles to its newsletter.
Yajat is particularly well suited to curious, gifted and twice-exceptional learners, including students who experience difficulties with attention, confidence, processing, working memory or becoming overwhelmed by complex questions.
Outside mathematics, Yajat enjoys football, FIFA, chess, astronomy and history. These interests help him build rapport and connect mathematical learning to subjects students find engaging.
