CAST — Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Framework
Does your child…?
Do the following apply to your child’s current school experience:
- Often understands work at home but performs below potential in tests or class.
- Starts tasks but struggles to finish them, or forgets steps in multi‑part questions.
- Gets overwhelmed by noise, changes, or long, open-ended tasks.
- Produces brilliant ideas but misses deadlines or loses marks through disorganisation.
Why this happens?
If you ticked any of these boxes, your child may be showing signs of executive‑functioning challenges, ADHD traits, or autism‑related needs. This is particularly common in gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) children where their high intelligence can often mask their underlying support needs, leading to them being labeled as “under-achieving”.
Our Approach: UDL + Executive Functioning Coaching
We use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to remove barriers to learning and Executive Functioning (EF) coaching to build the “brain’s CEO” skills.
- Multiple Means of Engagement: Keeping students motivated.
- Multiple Means of Representation: Teaching in ways they understand (visual, audio, interactive).
- Multiple Means of Action: Allowing them to show knowledge through their strengths.
Tailor-Made Success: Case Studies
Liam (13) — Bright but under-achieving in Maths
Problem: Scattered revision and frequent careless errors. Intervention: 8 sessions of tutor-led EF coaching. Outcome: Scores rose from 58% to 74% in mocks with improved confidence.
Noor (16) — Gifted & 2e (ADHD traits)
Problem: Exceptional verbal reasoning but struggled with essay initiation and structure. Intervention: 6 sessions on template-based planning and 2e-specific micro-starts. Outcome: Essay scores rose to 84%.
Oliver (11) — Autistic learner (Sensory Needs)
Problem: High anxiety and sensory overload. Intervention: Visual step cards and sensory-regulated routines. Outcome: Completed classwork independently for the first time.
